Braided Infinity Scarf

Image
All right, I'll admit it, over the past month I've got really into crochet. There's just something about it that I've found really calming and therapeutic. (Which is great considering how chaotic the past month has been and how chaotic the next month is shaping up to be!).  And since its now January (and winter should be in full swing!), I decided it was time I tried making a scarf. My original idea was to make a Buckeye helmet stripe so my mom and I would have a matching set for the national championship game. And well I was about halfway through when they lost to Clemson! So I in a fit of total despair I pulled it all apart (and in all fairness, it wasn't quite working out the way I thought it would) So I went back to the drawing board and decided that maybe for this winter instead of making a buckeye scarf maybe I would instead make a New England Patriots colored scarf. (And while I was searching for a buckeye infinity scarf to make, I actually stumb...

Mason Jar Coozy

Image
I've spent the past couple of weeks at a loss of what to make for my monthly crochet project. I was going to make an infinity scarf, but I couldn't decide on a color or what kind of yarn I wanted. And I've looked at making glove, but I'm not sure that I'm ready to make a pair yet.  I thought I finally had something when I discovered a crochet cat nest, but even after getting all of my grandmas extra yarn, I don't have the right size needed.  So I just began searching Pinterest for any crochet project that I was interested in. That's when I discovered this: The Project: Crochet Can Cozy Photo and instructions from  With a Grateful Prayer and a Thankful Heart I instantly knew, I could rework the project to fit over my mason jar cup. Results (All links are affiliated. So if you like it or need it please use the links provided. The blog gets little kickback if you do at no charge to you) (For this project I used an Orange, Cream a...

Crochet Cat Hat! (Meow!)

Image
Winter is coming... and getting a little closer everyday. (Yes even done here in Florida, things are starting to cool down). So for my monthly crochet project, I decided to make a hat. (or at least try to) The Project Make a Cat Hat Instructions from Persia Lou Results So I knew early on that I was going to need more yarn than I started with. But I figured since it was making a cat hat, that it would be all right. I mean cat's are all sorts of colors, right? So I started making my hat with black yarn  and mixed in a black to white ombre yarn to create some spots. And so when I switched over to the cream yarn , it would blend a little more evenly together. Here's how it looked once I finished it and stitched the sides together. As you can see, half of the the front is blackish and the rest is cream colored. And because I was wearing it, Blue had to try it on as well. I crocheted the brim. But I really wasn't feeling it. I think wa...

Learning to make Crochet Hearts

Image
I teased earlier this month about what I was making. But I never actually got around to buying more yarn to finish it. (And then there's the deciding what color finish it with and making sure I buy the same kind of yarn. Just a whole lot of trouble I tell you!) So instead I thought I would move on to a smaller project. I found instructions to make crocheted hearts and I've been dying to try them for a while now. So I thought there's no time like the present to try it out. The Project Learn To Make Crochet Hearts instructions from Sewrella Craftaholics Anonymous and this lovely instructional picture: (That I still have to track down the creator of) Results Apparently when you search for crochet heart patterns on pinterest, there are many different versions to try. And I didn't mean to try them all out, but I did end up trying a couple of them just to see which one I liked the best. And over all I really liked the Sewrella's 3 siz...

My First Attempts at Mug Cozies!

Image
(I really hate intros, so I'm going to keep this nice and short today.) I'm back again with another crochet project.  I'd be lying if I didn't say the main reason I picked up crocheting wasn't to learn how to make some coffee cozies. (If you search Pinterest alone, the results are endless. I'd hate to see how many there are on etsy!). So that is exactly what I learned to crochet this month. The Project Make a Coffee Mug Cozy Pattern From  Raverly: Marion's Mug Warmer Cozy Results I once again am still using my basic yarn , which is probably not the right yarn for the project, but its good enough for beginner projects. (Its a little too stretchy to be a good yarn for a coffee cozy. Or at least, I think a stiffer yarn would work better). And I the pattern I went with worked well with mugs of all sizes. My current mug obsession is the Starbucks You Are Here Disney World Collection . (My mom and I finally got out Magic Kingdom mugs on Sunday,...

Learning to Crochet with reusable face pads

Image
Over the past month, I've added another hobby (as if I don't have enough!) and new hobbies mean new segments for the blog! I originally wanted to pick up crocheting while I was out on maternity leave with the Lion, but well that never happened. (I could never figure out what I wanted to start with, so I couldn't figure out which yarn to buy or which hooks to buy).  I once again thought I would pick it up at the beginning of the year (I bought yarn on clearance at target, but never got any hooks and still didn't have a project in mind). Finally in as I was sorting through my pins on Pinterest, I caught the crochet bug again and bought a crochet hook set . Next step was to figure out how to crochet. A while back my mom gave me her copy of  Reader's Digest COMPLETE GUIDE TO NEEDLEWORK  which has an excellent beginners guide to crochet (and every other type of needlework). Its great, but I learn best while I'm working on a project (or at least have somethin...
