A Great Way To Organize Your Cords

Image
All right, I'm back again with another quick tip.  I make it no secret that I have two very curious toddlers in my house. And as I use my sewing machine and stand mixers more and more, the more they both want to help me. So leaving either one of them out while not in use is not really an option. I don't mind storing either of them, but dealing with the cords can get a little chaotic.  So I was very excited to find this cheap and easy tip below to help organize the wires while they and other small machinery are being stored. Tip Use to  Cord Bundlers  to organize cords. idea from  Dreaming in DIY Results So I wanted to try this on a couple different machines. The first obviously was my stand mixer . I was a little nervous on where to place it on the back of my mixer (and I was equally nervous it would fall off before I had a real chance to try it out). But really as long as you follow the cord from the machine it'll show you the best place to...

Seam Jack: The Tool You Didn't Know You Needed

Image
All right its time for another Thursday Quick tip (or Thursday Quickies as I call them in my head!). This time I'm talking about the Seam Jack (you can read all about it from  She's a Sewing Machine Mechanic ). Basically the idea is if you are sewing bulky seams you use a Seam Jack to lift the foot of your sewing machine and it will lessen the tension on your needle (and therefore you are less likely to snap a needle). This has actually been a great tip find because while I was sewing up a couple of soap pouches, I ended up snapping a whole lot of needles. Unfortunately I couldn't find any at Joann Fabrics or Michael's (or even Amazon for that matter), so I ended up making my own out of a cereal box top: It definitely lifts the seams.  I haven't quite figured out how to use it while sewing (I think I need to go slower and readjust it as I work my way across the bulky soap pouch seams).  But I know once I figure it out comple...

Toaster Hacks

Image
I'm back again with another quick tip. This time its in the form of two toaster hacks Toaster Hack #1 Making Grilled Cheese in the Toaster ' I've tested this hack many a times and I love it. Here are a couple of quick tips to get the best grilled cheese: 1. If you put cheese on only one side make sure its on the top slice of bread  I actually haven't tried it with cheese on both sides, but I would watch the bottom cheese slice if you do; depending on your toaster it may go shooting out of there 2. Figure out which side cooks on its side better.  If I turn my toaster so the lever is facing the left it tends to burn the bread very quickly, but if I turn it so the lever is facing the right, it cooks a perfect grilled cheese. Toaster Hack #2 Creating the perfect toasted bread for Sandwiches I love this toaster hack and use it all the time (especially for my tomato sandwiches!). The only advice I have is turn down your toaster setting down...

Proper Peanut Butter Storage

Image
On my many adventures looking through Pinterest, I stumble across many Life Hacks and just other useful tips. Mostly these are great ideas, but not really enough to make a full post on. So I decided to make Thursday my Quick Tip day. Where I can write a brief overview on some of the tips I've stumbled across and investigate if they really work or not. Quick Tip: Store Natural Peanut Butter upside down to eliminate the need to stir (and to make it easier to get the bottom bit of peanut butter out). (You can read all about it here:  The Bold Abode ) The Test: Flip peanut butter over and see if it works all the through using it. (Yes, its that easy) Results: Does It Work? I was a little skeptical at first, but I figured it wasn't going to hurt anything to try. And well I was absolutely thrilled with the results. While the natural no-stir peanut butter doesn't collect oil on top, it the peanut butter gets hard to spread the closer you get to the b...
