Monthly Upcycle Project: Rubermaid Totes Upcycle Two Ways

Image
Happy almost December all! So since we are on the eve of December and all, it means it finally time to reveal my November Upcycle Project. For November, I decided to finally use all the Rubbermaid Totes I have around the house. My mom used them to pack up my stuff when I went away to college and I've used them in every move since. (And they are a great thing to use when moving!) However, since I've moved in with Mike almost 4 years ago, we haven't moved. And we really have no intention of moving anytime soon. So I decided to start actually going through my things and start reusing them too! Project 1: Outdoor Cat House Instructions From  Catster So to make my cat shelter. I simply took my tote and cut a hole into on side of it  Easy enough right? To make it a little more homey and a lot more comfortable, I took two old towels and used the no sew blanket  technique to create a couple of blankets for the house. One on top of the house and one insi...

Toilet Paper Roll Planters

Image
I've been talking about growing a garden for a while now. (I think more so in my head than any where else) And I've tried a couple different times, and quite frankly I've always felt in over my head. But this I decided to just go for it. And since Lion (and Mike) love bell peppers (and after reading about them and learning they are fairly easy to grow), I thought that would be the perfect place to start. And naturally this all led to testing out the life hack below! (An upcycle and life hack together... my favorite!) The Project Make Planters Out Of Toilet Paper Rolls Hack From this picture (I'm not sure where this picture originated from, but I love it and I'm glad they made it!) Results The only hard part about this hack is figuring out how far up the roll to cut to make the flaps. And I've not quite sure I ever quite cut them right, but regardless of how big or small I made the flaps, I was still able to mash them together and create ...

DIY Soap Pouch

Image
I've been using bar soap for a while now. (I just find that its cheaper than body wash and it seems to last a lot longer too). I've been quite content using the bar soap with a loofah. It suds it up well and really I had no complaints other than they don't seem to stay together for that long. But even that didn't detour me from using it. However the last time Mike cleaned out our shower, he knocked down my loofah while cleaning. And knowing all the chemicals (mainly bleach) he used to clean our shower, I just couldn't bring myself to use it again. After that I just never got around to buying another loufa and switched over to a washcloth. Which is fine, but I haven't used one in so long that I found it really hard to stay lathered. And then I remembered that along my many adventures on Pinterest, I stumbled upon a towel soap pouch. I quickly found the soap pouch again and realized with my beginner sewing skills that I could handle it. So for this week...

May Monthly Project: 1 Container 4 Toys

Image
For this month's monthly project I found a a nifty idea from The Imagination Tree  that turns a basic cylinder container into toys for babies and toddlers.  I really love this idea of taking everyday containers and making toys of them. Especially since baby Lion is at the age where Gerber snacks are his favorite things, so I have plenty of extra cylinder containers laying around.  So here is my take on it. You could easily make all four in a weekend. Or you could spread it out and make one every weekend for a month. Either way its a great toy for your kids without spending a lot of money. For All Four Toys Here's What You Need: 1 Cylinder Container Spray Adhesive Fabric Box Cutter/ Exacto Knife Hot Glue Gun/ Fabric Glue Here's How You Make Them: Ribbon Pull Toy Extra Supplies Needed: Ribbon Here's How You Do it: The first thing you do is mark and  cut out squares all over your container, making sure that for every h...

Plastic Bag Basket

April is quickly coming to an end, so that means its time for my Monthly Project! This month's project features the number one item I have in my house (and I'm sure you have quite a few of them laying around yours as well): The Plastic Bag!  You know I've been trying to do something with all my plastic bags for years now and I've just never really found anything that fit what I wanted to. So what's a girl to do? Take a little inspiration from various projects and turn it into something I knew I could create! So without further ado here is how I turned plastic bags into a plastic bag basket (pictures will be coming soon Here's What You Need: Plastic Shopping Bags (The more you have the bigger the box you can make) Scissors Heavy Duty Needle and Thread Clips Empty Cardboard Box  Here's How You Do It: 1. Braid plastic bags into a rope First you lay your bag out flat with the sides tucked in; cut off the top and bottom Pull out the sides; St...
